    June 9, 2026 | Mumbai, India

For all the discussion around artificial intelligence, virtual collaboration and digital communication, one aspect of business remains remarkably unchanged. People still prefer seeing capability in action. Buyers want demonstrations rather than presentations. Entrepreneurs seek direct interaction rather than email correspondence. Decision-makers value first-hand experience over marketing brochures. That enduring reality helps explain why industrial exhibitions retain strong participation despite the availability of information at everyone’s fingertips.

INTEC 2026, the 21st edition of the International Machine Tools & Industrial Trade Fair held at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex in Coimbatore, offered a compelling illustration of this phenomenon. Hosted by the CODISSIA Intec Technology Centre, INTEC is widely regarded as South India’s premier industrial trade show. Over four decades, it has evolved into one of India’s most recognised platforms for engineering, metalworking, fabrication, automation and industrial advancement.

Widely recognised as one of South India’s most influential engineering expositions, the event brought together exhibitors, business leaders, researchers, consultants, sourcing professionals and entrepreneurs representing a broad cross-section of the economy. Over 460 participants representing 20 countries occupied more than 700 stalls spread across seven halls, creating an environment where ideas, applications and commercial opportunities converged under one roof. Visitor counts and participation figures provide useful context, although the significance of an event is often found elsewhere.

What stood out across the venue was the pace at which industrial priorities are evolving. Production facilities are increasingly incorporating robotics, analytics, intelligent controls, inspection systems, connected operations and software-enabled decision-making into daily activities. Across the halls, adaptability and competitiveness remained key areas of focus. Organizations are searching for better ways to manage resources, improve quality, reduce downtime and respond to changing market expectations.

Coimbatore provided an appropriate setting for these industry perspectives. Few cities have contributed as significantly to India’s engineering ecosystem. Generations of entrepreneurs established enterprises across pumps, motors, foundries, textiles and fabrication, helping create a business culture built upon innovation and practical problem-solving. That legacy remains relevant today, although contemporary ambitions increasingly extend towards automation, smart factories and digitally integrated operations.

Supporting much of this industrial growth has been the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA), which today represents over 6,400 entrepreneurs and has played a significant role in promoting enterprise development, technology adoption, industrial parks, testing facilities and knowledge-sharing initiatives across the region.

One of the most striking aspects of INTEC 2026 was the diversity of participation. Established corporations shared exhibition space with emerging ventures. Research institutions interacted with commercial enterprises. Solution providers worked closely with procurement teams. Industry veterans shared insights with young innovators. Such interactions are difficult to replicate through virtual platforms, regardless of technological advancement.

The event also featured specialised concurrent expos including Toolex 2026 and Industrial Automation Expo 2026, broadening participation across multiple industry segments. Alongside the exhibition, GMCV 2047 (Global Manufacturing Cluster Vision), offered a forum where thought leaders, policymakers, association representatives and business executives examined future possibilities for Indian enterprise. The focus extended well beyond current market conditions to areas such as capability enhancement, investment attraction and increased participation within global value chains.

Machine Tools World participated as Official Media Partner throughout the event. Interactions with exhibitors, visitors and sector specialists provided valuable insights into evolving priorities across the engineering community. A recurring theme across the halls was the growing demand for solutions that combine effectiveness with adaptability. Whether the subject was automation, quality assurance, inspection, analytics or resource management, the objective remained remarkably consistent. Businesses want greater visibility and better decision-making capability.

Perhaps that explains why exhibitions remain relevant in an increasingly digital age. Their importance goes far past product displays and commercial transactions. They provide a platform where industries assess trends, evaluate alternatives, identify partnerships and exchange practical knowledge. In many cases, a single meeting can become the starting point for future investments, collaborations or strategic initiatives.

As India pursues larger ambitions across engineering, electronics, mobility, aerospace and advanced production, platforms such as INTEC will remain important meeting points for those shaping the future of enterprise. Such gatherings remain important because they bring together people who build, design, supply, research and innovate. That exchange of knowledge often becomes the starting point for the next phase of progress.

The exhibition concluded after five days, but the ideas, opportunities and connections formed in Coimbatore are likely to influence industry long after the halls have emptied. New partnerships will emerge. Fresh ideas will be explored. Future investments will be evaluated. For anyone seeking to understand where Indian industry is heading, INTEC 2026 offered an encouraging glimpse of a sector looking ahead with ambition, curiosity and an expanding horizon of possibilities.
