Global manufacturing is undergoing a significant transition. International buyers are assessing suppliers through technical capabilities, integrated supply chains and their ability to support evolving product requirements. Artificial intelligence, automation and advanced materials are creating new opportunities across manufacturing, while international trade continues to encourage closer cooperation between producers, component suppliers and buyers.
Taiwan has established a strong international position in hand tools, hardware and precision manufacturing. Taichung, at the centre of Taiwan’s hardware cluster, serves as an important meeting point for manufacturers and international buyers seeking technical expertise, supplier networks and collaborative development opportunities.
The 2026 Taiwan International Tools & Hardware Expo x International Hardware Expo Taiwan (TiTE x IHT), co organised by the Taiwan Hand Tool Manufacturers’ Association (THMA) and Lanza International Co., Ltd., concluded on October 22 at the Taichung International Convention & Exhibition Center (TICEC). Held under the theme “TEAM TAIWAN: From Manufacturing to Co Creation | AI Empowerment, Smart Upgrading,” the three day exhibition featured nearly 450 companies across over 1,000 booths, representing growth exceeding 25% compared with the previous edition. For the first time, the exhibition occupied two floors.
The event recorded 25,000 visits and welcomed over 300 international buyers representing 65 countries. More than 100 business matchmaking meetings took place during the exhibition. By closing day, over 60% of exhibitors had rebooked for the 2027 edition, signalling strong interest in the platform’s role in international sourcing and business development.
Opening the exhibition for the second consecutive year, Taiwan President Lai Ching te highlighted the scale of the sector, noting that Taiwan’s 2,500 hardware and tool manufacturers exported NT$112 billion worth of products in the previous year, placing the country among the world’s top five producers in the sector. He also noted that the 15% Taiwan US reciprocal tariff, without stacking on Most Favoured Nation rates, places Taiwanese hand tools, plumbing hardware and machine tools on comparable tariff terms with Japan, South Korea and the European Union in the US market.
THMA Chairman Alan Hsieh reported that fourth quarter US holiday orders were already picking up. He added that Taiwan’s hand tool exports could grow by over 20% in the coming year if global conditions stabilise.
These developments highlight the growing importance of collaboration between manufacturers and international buyers. Procurement teams increasingly seek suppliers capable of contributing technical knowledge, material selection, design development and process optimisation at earlier stages of a project. Alongside the exhibition, six sessions of the TEAM TAIWAN Global Hardware Summit addressed this transition through discussions on market trends, material co creation, AI applications and decarbonisation.
TiTE x IHT 2026 welcomed over 300 international buyers, including more than 100 key buyers personally invited by the organisers, marking a record for the event. Delegations represented North America, Europe, Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, India and the Middle East. Participating buyers included procurement representatives associated with leading American and German tool brands, Japanese professional hand tool brands and major home improvement retailers across Europe and the Americas. Many held purchasing authority, creating opportunities for direct commercial discussions and supplier evaluation.
The exhibition followed the autumn Canton Fair, supporting international sourcing activity. A sourcing meeting organised by the Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs, and implemented by TAITRA took place on the day before the exhibition opened. Buyers subsequently visited exhibitor booths and nearby factories, allowing them to assess suppliers, inspect manufacturing capabilities and discuss technical requirements within a concentrated schedule.
This approach, described as the “Exhibition as Factory” model, connects product evaluation with direct access to manufacturing facilities. Taichung’s surrounding hardware cluster enables buyers to explore materials, components, processing technologies and finished tools while reducing the time required to assess potential suppliers.
Mr. Takeda, Vice Chairman of the Japan DIY Homecenter Association, also led a delegation to the exhibition, supporting closer commercial ties between Taiwan’s manufacturers and Japan’s home improvement retail sector. Over 25 international trade media outlets representing 18 countries covered the event on site.
The exhibition also highlighted the role of Taiwanese hardware in demanding working environments through the participation of Australian firefighters. The delegation appeared with tools manufactured by Jun Kaung, Easen, Sunny Box, Stand Tools and A KRAFT. Fire and rescue environments place demanding requirements on equipment, where high temperatures, smoke and time critical decisions require tools capable of functioning under severe conditions.
This initiative connected Taiwan’s accumulated expertise in materials, forging, heat treatment and tool engineering with the practical requirements of frontline rescue personnel. It also highlighted the contribution of hardware manufacturing to workplace safety, emergency response and community resilience.
The next edition of TiTE x IHT is scheduled for October 19 to 21, 2027, at TICEC, following Phase 1 of the autumn Canton Fair. The organisers anticipate 500 exhibitors across 1,200 booths, alongside an expanded Global Buyer Day.
The 2027 exhibition aims to broaden its scope beyond finished tools and hardware, presenting a wider spectrum of Taiwan’s manufacturing capabilities. Two expanded zones are planned to connect component manufacturers, specialist suppliers and technical service providers with international buyers.
The Mechanical Components & Machined Metal Parts zone is set to cover gears, bearings and transmission components; castings, stampings and precision machined parts; along with heat treatment, surface treatment and inspection technologies. It is designed to serve design engineering, prototyping, production engineering and procurement teams across automotive and electric vehicles, aerospace and defence, semiconductor equipment, robotics and automation, machine tools, industrial machinery and energy equipment.
The Rescue & Industrial Safety zone is planned to feature rescue and extrication tools, personal protective equipment, work at height systems and emergency response equipment. It aims to address the requirements of fire services, disaster relief agencies, public works departments and corporate safety teams, connecting equipment manufacturers with organisations responsible for protecting people and maintaining essential services.
These expanded zones aim to create an integrated sourcing platform spanning materials, components, processing technologies and finished tools, complemented by access to nearby factories for prototyping and process validation.
Andrew Liu, General Manager of Lanza International Co., Ltd., said, “As global supply chains undergo realignment, international buyers are assessing entire sourcing regions, including their ability to integrate materials, components and finished goods with speed and consistency. The expanded exhibition zones will showcase Taiwan’s integrated manufacturing capabilities, helping the hardware sector become a valued co-creation partner for global brands. Our vision is to establish Taichung as the preferred destination for sourcing Taiwan made products.”
The changing requirements of international trade are creating opportunities for manufacturing regions that combine technical expertise, supplier networks and the capacity to adapt. Taiwan’s hardware sector demonstrates how an established manufacturing base can expand its capabilities through digital technologies, collaborative development and stronger international market connections.
For India and other Asian economies, these developments offer valuable perspectives on specialised manufacturing, industrial technology, supplier integration and international trade. As companies across the region invest in advanced engineering, automation and connected supply chains, cooperation between manufacturing centres can support technical exchange, new sourcing relationships and commercial growth.
Across the global economy, future manufacturing partnerships will depend on combining regional strengths with international knowledge, responsible practices and technological progress. TiTE x IHT is positioning Taichung as a meeting point for these developments, connecting established manufacturing capabilities with emerging requirements across international markets.
The future of manufacturing will be defined by the connections built today between technology, engineering expertise and international markets. As Taiwan advances its hardware capabilities, the opportunities extend across India, Asia and the global economy, opening avenues for industrial cooperation, knowledge sharing and the development of next generation technologies. TiTE x IHT 2027 aims to take this vision further, bringing manufacturers, engineers, buyers and innovators together to create new possibilities for trade and technical collaboration. With Taichung serving as a meeting point for these ambitions, the exhibition looks ahead to a future in which regional expertise contributes to shared industrial progress and new opportunities across continents.
